My journey into this field isn’t just professional, it’s deeply personal. I was born in Tampa, Florida, and raised with a heavy influence by my grandparents, both veterans and proud members of the Greatest Generation. They instilled in me old-fashioned values, a strong sense of faith, and a deep respect for those who came before us. I’ve always been an old soul, and from a young age, I knew my purpose was to serve and advocate for seniors.
As a child, I spent my time visiting nursing homes, reading to residents, listening to their stories, and simply being present. Those moments shaped who I am. I saw how much wisdom, love, and life experience our elders hold and how often they’re left without someone to truly stand in their corner. That realization lit a fire in me that has never gone out.
I’ve built my career around being that advocate. My clients know they can call me when they’ve received a diagnosis, when they’re admitted into the hospital, and even when it’s time to help their families navigate end-of-life decisions. I consider it a sacred trust to be part of those moments. It’s a calling I do not take lightly and an honor I can’t quite put into words.

With seven years in the Air Force and over 15 years as an Air Traffic Controller for both the military and the FAA, I spent my career in high-stakes environments where "close enough" was never an option. In the tower and control room, my job was built on intense analytical evaluation and purposeful decision-making. These are skills that I now bring to your retirement and insurance planning.
Transitioning into this field wasn’t just a career change; it was a response to a calling. Through Dixie’s leadership and her genuine servant’s heart, I saw a profound need for advocates in this space. I realized that the same level of precision and advocacy required to navigate a crowded airspace is exactly what people need when navigating the complexities of their retirement, the very future they’ve spent decades working to build.

Jan Thomas: From the Dental Chair to Your Retirement Table
My path to Simply Southern Health and Retirement was what I like to call a "happy accident." After spending more than 40 years in the dental field, I realized my heart has always been rooted in a single, deep responsibility: helping people feel less anxious and more comfortable during moments that often feel overwhelming. I began my career chairside, supporting patients through some of their most vulnerable physical moments, and eventually transitioned into being the first friendly face they saw when they walked through the door.
Over the years, I found my true calling in the "confusing stuff"by helping patients understand their dental benefits and navigating the maze of insurance claims. I took immense pride in taking something that felt complicated and making it simple, ensuring the people I served got the most out of the benefits they worked so hard for. Many of the patients I met along the way became like family to me, which is a gift I still treasure and a standard of care I bring to every new person I meet.
Now, as a senior myself, I find that my neighbors, friends, and even former patients are still turning to me for help, though the questions have shifted toward navigating the complexities of Medicare. They trust me to guide them with honesty and empathy, and that trust means everything to me. I realized that the same compassion and advocacy I used for decades in the dental office is exactly what is needed in the world of health and retirement planning.
